When buying a frame in a shop, one can be assured that the frames you will find there are made for the market in our country. This is most noticeable in the shape of the support for the nose pad. In the picture to the left, it is easy to see that the support has a nice smooth bend. When looking at a person wearing this frame, the support is not visible, and the user does not look at the supports when reading a book.

Now compare this to the frame to the right. Notice the bulky nose pad supports? This is a typical style that for historical reasons is still popular in Japan and China. When looking at this, it does not look very elegant. And for the user, it can be uncomfortably in the way when looking at something up close.

Unfortunately, none of the offshore websites that offer frames at competitive prices seem to be paying much attention to this. And even customers who receive such frames may not even notice at first. Only when comparing to ‘western’ style frames will the difference all of a sudden become clear.

Another feature that unfortunately is often found on frames on offshore sites is strange frame names. We have heard plenty of stories from customers who received glasses that all of a sudden had Chinese sounding names printed on the outside of the temples - for all to see. Quite possibly those names are the equivalent of ‘Armani’ in Chinese, but it sure will look real cheap to your friends.
