Glasses come in 3 styles:
Full rim: Lenses are surrounded on all sides with frame material.
Semi rimless: Lenses are partially surrounded with frame material, and part of the lens is held in place with a thin thread.
Rimless: There is no frame material surrounding the lenses; frame is drill-mounted onto the lenses.
Unfortunately, we currently do not offer this service (called re-glazing).
Lens indexes are based on the refractive power a material carries; as the index number gets higher, the refractive power of the material increases. A lens with a higher refractive index will be thinner compared to lower indexes. People with heavy prescriptions often opt for higher index lenses, because these reduce the thickness and the weight of the lens. A detailed explanation of lens indexes and the kinds we carry can be found here.

Most other websites only offer a choice of 10 to 20 lenses, but we have over 450 different lenses available to our customers; the largest lens selection online in the world!
In order to help you narrow down the selections, our website will automatically calculate which lens would be best suited for you during the checkout process, based on things like your prescription, whether or not you want sunglasses, and what purpose your lens will serve (progressive, bifocal, single vision, etc.).
Definitely, any one of our frames can be turned into sunglasses. On the first checkout screen (where you enter your prescription, simply indicate that you want sunglasses in your chosen frame. For detailed information on the various sunglass lenses Visio-Rx offers, click here.

Progressive lenses are lenses with multiple powers, but without the lines that separate them. These lenses allow a maturing eye to be accommodated without making the wearer look old-fashioned. This revolutionary lens allows people to look as young as they feel!

We don't want to rely on the PD and frame formula based on averages that many other sites use; no one is the same, and a mathematical formula without personal information can easily calculate wrong values for an individual product like glasses.
When you place your order, we will ask for a couple of pictures from you that our lab uses to calculate the ideal placement of your lenses. These pictures are simple to take and help you make sure that your lenses will be fitted based on your personal measurements, not averages.
And, as a bonus, we use these same pictures to pre-adjust your frame to your face.
To read instructions on taking these pictures, please click here.
Some of our customers would like to have their online glasses checked by an optician. For the optician to do a correct evaluation, he will need to clearly understand which norms have been applied. Please Below we provide the standards which our lab uses to determine the mounting of the lenses in the frame.
Horizontal Fitting
Vertical Fitting (in case customer has provided pictures to facilitate calculation)
For spherical lenses (most Adnuo 1.50, Trivex 1.53, Adnuo 1.57, Xirm 1.58, Polycarbonate 1.59 stock lenses, all Optimo and all Visiero lenses are spherical):
For aspherical lenses (some Xirm 1.58, and all Adnuo 1.61, Adnuo 1.67 and Adnuo 1.74 stock lenses are aspherical):
In case the customer has not provided pictures to enable Visio-Rx to measure true fitting height, our lab bases the fitting height on averages. For each frame an average fitting height is calculated by letting various people wear the frame. Though not as a crude as the 50% of total lens height applied by many optical websites, our averages-system is not as accurate as when a customer uploads actual pictures.
